An educator, engineer, and mentor, Steffy Simms has taught at several of Hawaiʻi’s leading independent schools, including Kamehameha Schools, Punahou School, and most recently ʻIolani School, where she teaches physics and leads robotics and STEM initiatives. A Punahou graduate herself, Steffy understands Hawaiʻi’s independent schools from both the student and educator perspectives, with firsthand knowledge of their academic expectations, cultures, and values.
Trained as a systems engineer, Steffy brings an analytical and highly practical perspective to education. Throughout her teaching career, she has helped students develop the confidence, curiosity, and problem-solving skills needed to thrive in rigorous learning environments. Her work in robotics and project-based learning has also given her particular insight into STEM pathways, innovation programs, and experiential learning opportunities.
Steffy has worked extensively with students preparing for the SSAT and SAT, helping students and parents understand testing expectations, secondary school entry requirements, and the broader admissions process. Her experience as an admissions interviewer has further shaped her understanding of how schools evaluate applicants and what allows a student’s character, interests, and potential to stand out beyond grades and test scores.
B&B families working with Steffy can expect thoughtful, candid, and highly personalized guidance. She is especially well qualified to support middle and high school applicants, particularly those interested in rigorous academics, STEM, innovation, and project-based learning.
