As a current educator with 35 years of experience teaching high school science—including 28 years as an Upper School physics teacher at ʻIolani School—Darin K. has had the privilege of supporting students through some of their most important academic milestones. An ʻIolani graduate himself, he understands the school’s culture, expectations, and values from both the student and teacher perspectives. His work as an admissions interviewer has also given him a clear understanding of how the school evaluates applicants and how families can showcase their child’s unique story with clarity and confidence.
Darin’s connection to education extends far beyond the classroom. He is the parent of five children, three ʻIolani graduates now living in Japan, Canada, and Hawaiʻi, and a fourth currently attending ‘Iolani School as a kindergartner. Darin’s wife, a longtime ʻIolani teacher and Founding Partner at Basso & Basso Consulting, has further shaped his belief in the power of a supportive school environment and importance of helping families find the right school fit for their child.
Families working with Darin can expect a knowledgeable, committed, and honest partner throughout the admissions journey. Darin aims to make admissions less overwhelming by offering clear guidance, thoughtful insights, and genuine care for each child’s unique story and strengths.
